Vermo Trotting School offers a wide range of activities, clubs and courses for children and young people. Take part in a pony course, arrange a pony or a surprise drive - the possibilities are almost endless. Check out what we have to offer further down this page.
You can see the course schedules and start times in more detail in the Hopoti booking system. The courses are organised in five-week cycles, after which the content of the course calendar changes.
PONY COURSES
Pony courses are aimed at children and young people over 7 years old. The scope of the courses is always 5 x 1.5 h, if there is no separate mention. The price of one course is 200 euro. All course participants will also receive a Hippos Guided Hobby Activity License OH.
Beginners I
Beginner Course I is aimed at children over 7 years of age who want to learn the basics of horsemanship and how to care for and drive a trotting pony. There is no entry level requirement. The course teaches stable and pony routines, pony care and handling, and body parts. The course introduces you to the different breeds, colours, brands and equipment of the trotting pony.
During the course, you will learn, among other things, the rules of the stable, how to lead and brush the pony, and how to interpret its facial expressions and gestures. In addition, with the help of an instructor, students learn to harness the pony and the basics of driving; How to go straight, stand still and turn.
Beginner Course II
Beginner Course II is aimed at children over 7 years of age who have completed Elementary Course I or have mastered equivalent skills. The course introduces the pony's behaviour and senses, care and handling, as well as stable safety and behaviour in the stables. The course teaches how to harness and drive, through which you become familiar with the equipment of a trotting pony.
The goal is that after the course you will be able to operate safely in the stables, know the horse's most common needs, and know its behaviour and senses. In addition, he can put a halter on a horse and lead him, knows harnesses and cart parts, is able to harness and drive straight, as well as stop and turn with assistance.
Basic driving course
The basic course is aimed at children over 7 years of age who have completed elementary courses or have mastered equivalent skills. The course teaches how to operate in a stable and how to care for a stable, the characteristics of a healthy pony and regular health care.
The goal is to get acquainted with stable routines and tools, learn to identify the different needs of ponies
and some of the most common diseases. During the course, you will learn how to care for equipment and how to ride on the track.
Advanced Course I
Advanced Course I is aimed at children over 7 years of age who have completed beginner courses and a basic driving course or have mastered equivalent skills. The course teaches horse anatomy, hoof care, horse colours, trotting horse breeds, safe pony handling, and harnessing and riding a trotting pony.
The goal is to learn the horse's external anatomical parts, how to care for hooves, how to dress and take off the warp safely, the most common racehorse breeds and colors, how to harness a trotting pony and how to ride and trot on the track.
Advanced Course II
Advanced Course II is aimed at children over 7 years of age who have completed Advanced Course I or have mastered equivalent skills. The course teaches horse anatomy, signs of horses. In addition, the students learn how to handle a horse safely as well as harnessing and driving a trotting horse.
The goal is to learn the horse's external anatomical parts, how to safely dress and take off the pony's warp, how to harness the trotting pony, how to ride and trot on the track, and how to recognize the most common signs of horses.
Preparation course
The preparation course is aimed at people over 8 years of age who have completed a basic driving course or have mastered equivalent skills. The course introduces you to coaching a trotting pony, taking care of a pony after a tougher training and learning how to ride with a watch.
The goal is to learn different pony training methods, how to warm up and ski the pony, how to take care of the pony after a harder workout, and the principles of timing when riding. You can also participate in the course with your own pony.
Racing course
The competition course is aimed at children and young people over 9 years of age who have completed a preparation course or mastered similar matters. During the racing course, you will learn how to ride on the racetrack in a group, the basics of volt starting, special equipment for a trotting pony and how to work with a pony in competitions.
The goal is to learn the most common rules when riding on the racetrack, learn how to identify
the start and finish, the most common special equipment for the trotting pony, how to choose equipment for the racing pony, how to finalize the pony for the race, how to care for the pony after the start and how to read the information in the start list. The course prepares you to complete a pony driving licence course. You can also participate in the course with your own pony.
HOBBY HORSE CLUB
For those aged 7-15 who are interested in hobby horses

The club takes place on Wednesdays from 17:00 to 18:00
Club venue: Kepparipuisto or indoor hobby arena
The Hobby Horse Club is held on Wednesdays in Vermo's grandstand building, in the arena on the ground floor or, weather permitting, outdoors in Vermo Arena's hobby park. The club includes versatile and fun activities with hobby horses, such as handicrafts, show jumping and other hobby training. At the same time, you will get acquainted with harness racing. The club price includes guidance, materials and necessary equipment. You can take your own hobby horse with you. Suomen Hippos ry assures club members.

Interested in ponies? Join the trotting pony club! The pony club is open once a week with nice little ponies in the premises of Vermo Trotting School.
